The Power of Breath (a.k.a. Your Built-In Superpower)

Let’s talk about breathing. You know: that thing you’re doing right now without even thinking about it? Yep, that one.
Breathing keeps us alive, fuels our muscles, powers our brain, and yet… most of us treat it like background noise. We’ve got time to scroll, stress, and binge-watch Netflix, but somehow no time to check in with our lungs. (Rude, considering how loyal they’ve been.)
Now picture a sleeping baby. Not just for the cuteness factor (although, yes please), but for the way they breathe. It’s soft, rhythmic, and effortlessly full. A newborn exhales about 25 millilitres of air per breath, that’s like… a generous sip of tea.
They do this 30 to 60 times a minute, filling their tiny bodies with exactly what they need, without overthinking it, or trying to "optimize their performance."
It’s a gentle nudge from the universe: you don’t need to force your breath to make it
powerful.
But Then Adulthood Happened…
Bills, deadlines, toddlers climbing furniture, that one passive-aggressive work email, life happens, and somewhere along the way, we forget how to breathe.
I see it all the time. People breathing high into their chests, shallow and rapid like they’re in a rush to nowhere. The result? Constant tension, low energy, brain fog, and a general feeling of “Why am I so out of breath just being?”
Here’s a wild idea: maybe it’s not you, maybe it’s your breath just trying to catch up with your to-do list.
Morning Reset: A 60-Second Ritual
Before the emails, before the caffeine, before the chaos… try this:
1. Sit on the edge of your bed like the majestic, grounded human you are
2. Plant your feet on the floor
3. Sit tall like you’re being pulled up by an invisible crown
4. Close your eyes
5. Notice your breath. No judgement. Just tune in.
6. Inhale deeply: feel your ribs expand like you’re inflating a balloon
7. Exhale slowly: let your belly soften like a sigh of relief
That’s it. That’s the post. You just had a mindful moment.
So, What’s in it for You?
Breathwork isn’t just for yogis and people who own Himalayan salt lamps. It’s for you, me, and anyone who wants to feel a little more like themselves again. Here’s what intentional breathwork can do:
✅ Calm your nervous system (hello, parasympathetic mode!)
✅ Improve oxygen flow (your brain loves that stuff)
✅ Lower blood pressure and heart rate (no more exploding over small things)
✅ Support digestion (yes, deep breathing can help with bloating!)
✅ Anchor you to the present moment (like a mental pause button)
“But I Don’t Have Time…”
Let me lovingly call your bluff. You’re breathing anyway. Might as well do it with some love, intention, and maybe a soft belly.
So the next time you're in traffic, in line, or in your feels: breathe like a baby. Trust your body. Let your breath lead the way.
You’ve got this. One breath at a time
